Thermisch effect: de hitte van moxa dringt diep door het weefsel, in contrast tot een meer verspreide warmte door een ander externe warmtebron. Dit effect treedt vooral op alles meerder cones op een punt gebrand worden. Dit creëert de belangrijke pijn verminderde capaciteit. Chemisch effect: door de hitte van de huid ontstaan gedenatureerde proteïne histotoxine die vrijkomt in het serum en daar de productie van rode en witte bloedcellen aanzet. Hematologisch effect: Aantal witte bloedcellen schieten omhoog. Direct na moxa branden met een piek van ongeveer 8 uur na behandeling.
